A PLAY Project Consultant collaborates with the family to create a unique PLAY Plan with personalized recommendations of activities and techniques, based on an assessment of the child.
The plan, along with coaching, modeling and feedback provided by the PLAY Project Consultant, empowers parents to support their child through the stages of development.
PLAY sessions with the consultant are approximately three hours long, and take place in a family’s home once a month. During each visit, the PLAY Project Consultant listens to updates from the family, answers questions, coaches the family, and models techniques and activities.
Combining these key elements – family, natural environment, and play – the PLAY Project’s benefits are significant and proven effective.
“I would definitely recommend the PLAY Project to other parents. I feel that it’s really manageable, it’s natural. You’re playing, which is a way the child naturally learns. And, it teaches you to just slow down and follow your kids’ cues and follow their interests so that you can teach them to learn effectively.”
– Julie Luu, Parent
• PLAY Project is led by parents and caregivers, therefore it is more affordable – reducing costs from as high as $40,000 down to approximately $5,000 per year. And it works.
• Research shows that this model leads to improved relationships between parents and children and overall improved outcomes for children with autism, to name a few benefits.
